James Rodriguez scored his first QSL goal as Al-Rayyan defeated Al-Sailiya 4-2 on Tuesday.
In his third start since joining the club, the Colombia international received a cross from Abdulaziz Hatem in the 74th minute and made no mistake from close range to score his side’s third goal.
At this point, Al-Rayyan looked in control of the game with a 3-0 lead as they ended the first half up front thanks to Yohan Boli’s header, before Mouafak Awad added the second goal three minutes before Rodriguez scored. The three goals were all created by Abdulaziz Hatem who could have scored himself but was unlucky hitting the post twice!
Substitute Ramin Rezaian pulled one back for Al-Sailiya in the 86th minute from the penalty spot, and less than two minutes later another substitute, Ahmed Sebaei headed in Ali Jasmi’s cross to set up a tense finale for the game.
Al-Rayyan replied immediately with a fourth goal to secure their second league win in seven matches. Boli sent a low cross from the right to leave Awad with a simple tap-in for his first-ever league brace for the club.
The win sent Al-Rayyan one place up to sixth in the league standings, while Al-Sailiya are now bottom of the table on goal difference from Al-Shamal and Al-Khor.
