Paris Saint-Germain was held to goalless draw by Marseille at the Velodrome in the “Le Classique” of French football.
Both sides had their chances and even found the net but were denied by VAR.
Lionel Messi, Neymar, Kylian Mbappé, and Angel Di Maria started for the Parisians, but the early threat came from the home team when Arkadiusz Milik headed a free header wide in the fourth minute.
The visitors took the lead in the 15th minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a decision by the VAR.
Six minutes later, Milik found the net with a simple finish after a cross from the right, but once again the goal was cancelled after a decision by the VAR.
Messi came close to the opener near the break, but his effort went inches wide of the left post.
Marco Verrati suffered an injury and had to be substituted at half-time with Idrissa Gueye coming on.
VAR was in action once again in the 57th minute this time when referee Benoit Bastien reviewed a foul by PSG’s right back Achraf Hakimi, before sending him off.
Marseille failed to take advantage of the extra player and wasted their chances in a disappointing night for the home fans.
Despite the result, PSG are still top of Ligue 1 standings with 28 point, eight clear from their nearest rivals Lens. They are set to face the defending champions Lille in the next matchweek on Friday.
