The Red Bulls all square in Doha


  • Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg were held to a 3-3 draw by German second division side RB Leipzig in a highly entertaining friendly match at Aspire Zone in Doha on Tuesday.
  • Both sides are owned by the giant Austrian energy drink company Red Bull, and yesterday’s game, marked their first ever meeting.
  • Min.5: Matt Miazga brought down Marcel Sabitzer inside the box, and Jonathan Soriano made no mistake from the spot, 1-0 Salzburg.


  • Miazga, a US U-19 international joined RB Leipzig training few days ago, but there is no formal agreement yet on his transfer from MLS side NY Red Bulls. He picked up an injury later in the game and was substituted 10 minutes before the break.
  • Sabitzer, one of the most promising names in Austrian football, joined RB Leipzig in 2014, alongside Belgium U-21 international Massimo Bruno, but both were loaned to Red Bull Salzburg.
