Al Rayyan has completed the loan signing of Egypt international Mahmoud Trezeguet from Trabzonspor until the end of the 2024/25 season. The 29-year-old winger, who will wear the number 8 shirt, joins the Qatari side as they look to strengthen their squad following a difficult start to their campaign. Trezeguet expressed his excitement to play in front of Al Rayyan’s passionate fans and is expected to fill the void left by Moroccan Sofiane Boufal, who recently left the club.
A youth product of Cairo giants Al Ahly, Trezeguet left to Europe in 2015, starting with Belgian club Anderlecht before moving to Kasimpasa in Turkey. His performances attracted the attention of Aston Villa who signed him in 2019. Over two seasons, he scored eight goals in 55 English Premier League matches, before returning to Turkey in 2021, on loan at Istanbul Başakşehir. A year later, he joined Trabzonspor where he established himself as one of the best wingers in the Super Lig. He has also been a key figure for the Egypt national team, representing the Pharaohs in the 2018 World Cup and multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
Al Rayyan are currently eighth in the Qatar Stars League table with just one win from three matches.
