Gold Cup 2021: Qatar 4-0 Grenada

Qatar eased past Grenada to register their first CONCACAF Gold Cup win and bolster their chances of reaching the quarterfinals.

Qatar’s head coach Felix Sanchez made two changes to the side the started the first game against Panama.

Abdulaziz Hatem opened the scoring in the 11th minute after goalkeeper Jason Belfon failed to catch a simple cross. The referee approved the goal after checking the video assistant referee (VAR).

Akram Afif curled in the second from the edge of the box in the 22nd minute, before Mohammed Muntari headed in Afif’s corner at the near post to give the Asian champions a comfortable 3-0 lead at halftime.

AlMoez Ali, who missed a big chance in the first half, added the fourth just after the break.

The other group D game saw Honduras beating Panama 3-2 to book their place in the quarterfinals.

A draw for Qatar in their final match against Honduras will be enough to finish second in the group and book their place in the next round.
