Qatar kept alive their hopes of securing a knockout spot at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup after a 1-1 draw against South Africa on Thursday.
The hosts took the lead in the third minute through Yazan Mohamed, but their advantage was short-lived as Emile Witbooi headed in the equalizer just 13 minutes later.
Goalkeeper Solethu Radebe produced a string of impressive saves to keep out Ziad Faisal later in the first half, and remained pivotal after the break as Qatar continued to threaten through the pace of wingers Yazan Mohamed and Tameem Al Qadi.
After a disappointing opening defeat to Italy, Alvaro Mejia’s side produced a much-improved performance and must now beat Bolivia in their final group match to stand any chance of progressing to the round of 32.
Italy beat Bolivia earlier on Thursday to book their place in the knockout stage.
